Artists and nature lovers have been visiting these shores for years. As you cycle along the coast you will pass by blue herons standing motionless in the shallows, seals bobbing up and down wondering who the curious visitors are, and whales frolicking just off shore. For a closer look jump into one of our ocean kayaks. You will wonder who is watching whom?

Our bicycle tour of Nova Scotia’s South Shore is incredibly popular. The Lighthouse Route hugs Nova Scotia’s South Shore from Halifax to the charming area of White Point with many quaint fishing villages adorning the coast along the way — their colourful fishing boats echoing the brightly painted old homes. This route passes through the beautiful historic towns of Mahone Bay, Chester, Lunenburg and Liverpool, and your senses might need reminding that, yes, you’re still in the 21st century.

Itinerary

Day One — 41.5 km / 26 mi (easy)

There is a group pick-up at the Halifax airport around 9:00am. (If you arrive earlier we’ll pick you up at your hotel in Halifax at 9:30am.) You’ll be escorted by private van to Hubbards, where we will get your bike fitted for the week ahead. Once familiar with your bikes and any adjustments have been completed, we will head off around the Aspotogan Peninsula enroute to the Western Shore.

Day Two — 44 km / 27 mi (easy to moderate)

After breakfast, we cycle into the town of Chester. Once here, we will park the bikes and explore the quaint town and enjoy a wonderful lunch before making our way back to our hotel to relax. Tonight’s dinner will be at a local seaside restaurant.

Day Three — 46 km / 29 mi (easy to moderate)

Today, the ride is off the beaten path — cycling the quiet country roads through Indian Point and Mahone Bay. Your destination is Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you will hang your helmet for the next two evenings. First settled in 1753, the town has many historic buildings and homes, and the home port of the famous ‘Bluenose Schooner’. Once settled in our comfortable inn, you are free to explore this quaint seaside town.

Day Four — Kayaking with cycling option 16 km / 10 mi (easy)

We will shuttle you to the scenic fishing village of Blue Rocks for a morning of sea kayaking. Even the novice kayaker will enjoy the beauty of the coastline and numerous islands as enjoyed from the water. Those who want to get a ride in can cycle a 15km/9.5mi route. This day will leave you with plenty of time afterwards to explore Lunenburg, considered the best surviving example of a British colonial settlement in North America. Established in 1753, it has retained its original layout and overall appearance, based on a rectangular grid pattern drawn up in the old country.

Day Five — 97.5 km / 61 mi (moderate to challenging)
(For those who may feel the burn today, jump in the SAG Wagon at any time)

Back on our bicycles, we make our way to Summerville Center — the week’s final destination. You will take a scenic ride on one of the last existing cable ferries to La Have and stop at the La Have Bakery for an incredible lunch. In the afternoon, you will continue on to Crescent Beach, Mill Village and Liverpool before settling in to your lodge for the night. Time permitting, stroll the beach or have a quick dip before dinner.

Day Six — 24.8 km / 15 mi (easy)

After breakfast, we saddle up our bikes once more for our final ride out to South West Port Mouton. An easy out and bike ride that will take us past Carters Beach where those that wish can stop for a quick stroll or even a quick dip if you wish. Those that prefer a more relaxing morning can stay back and enjoy Summerville Beach. Once back from the ride, we will load up the van and trailer to begin making our way back to Halifax. Along the route, we will stop at the unique Cosby’s Gardens (an easy walk featuring incredibly unique sculptures) before making our way to the Airport and downtown Halifax.

Absolutely! All bike types are welcome—road, gravel, hybrid, or e‑bike. If you’d prefer to ride your own bike, we’ll transport it for you on the back of the van if needed. Our team can also assist with basic maintenance and adjustments throughout the trip to keep you rolling smoothly.

Yes – all of our rental bikes come equipped with a rear bag (pannier or trunk bag) or a small bag (Road bike) to carry essentials like snacks, cameras, or extra layers while you ride. Larger luggage will be transported separately by our support van each day.

Our tours run rain or shine! We recommend packing quality rain gear and layers so you can stay comfortable in wet weather. If the conditions become unsafe (such as high winds or lightning), our support van will be available to shuttle you and your bike to the next stop. We always adapt plans to keep everyone safe and comfortable.

Yes! If you’d like to take a break from cycling, you’re welcome to ride in the support van to the next destination. Some guests choose to take a day off to relax and recharge by enjoying the views form the van. You are always able to call it a day cycling or start cycling at any point throughout the ride.

Travel insurance is not included in the tour price. We strongly recommend purchasing your own travel insurance to cover trip cancellations, medical expenses, lost luggage, and any unexpected events before or during the tour.

Yes – we provide GPS routes for every tour. Before your trip, you’ll receive digital route files that can be used on a GPS device or smartphone app.

We recommend bringing one to two carry‑on sized suitcases per person. This helps us fit everyone’s bags comfortably in the support van. Larger items are best left at home, but we can assist with storing any extra luggage that won’t be needed during the tour.

Yes – helmets are provided and must be worn at all times while cycling, as they are mandatory by law and Pedal and Sea Adventures. Guests are also welcome to bring their own helmet if they prefer to use one they’re already comfortable with.

No – gratuities for your guides are not included and are left to your discretion. As a general guideline, we suggest $20–$25 per guest, per day, per guide. Gratuities for meals and lodging are covered, but bar bills and any personal extras are not included.

No – kayaking is completely optional and it is included in your tour price. If you’d prefer not to kayak, you’ll have free time to relax or explore the area while others are on the water.
