8 day tour
Croatia's Kvarner Bay
Discover a dramatic coastline and a string of islands dotted with hidden coves on our new cycling tour through Croatia’s Kvarner Bay. Your adventure will start on our private boat in the historical city of Rijeka.
This is where the oldest traces of human presence in the area can be traced, dating back to the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods. Prehistoric castles dating back to the bonze and iron periods dot the coast.
Your adventure will start on our private boat in the historical city of Rijeka.
From our boat you will visit the islands of Lošinj, Molat, Pag and Dugi Otok among others. We will visit the old town of Zadar, home to more than 3,000 years of history. Experiencing Croatia by bicycle and boat is the only way to find the heart of this diverse and poetic country. We look forward to sharing it with you!
More than 3,000 years of history
Croatia's Kvarner Bay
Day One — Cres, 5 km (easy; 1 mile = 1.6 km)
We suggest you arrive in Rijeka as early as possible to give yourself some time to explore this lovely port town on your own. Filled with history, you could spend hours exploring the city, but do make sure you find our boat at the pier before you start to wander! After check-in at noon, our motorized boat will take you to Cres where you will have your first bicycle ride of the week. The ride around the town of Cres will be short and easy to give you the chance to get familiar with your bike.
Day Two — Cres to Lošinj, 45 km (easy to moderate)
In the morning our boat will sail from Cres to Martinščica where we will start with our bike ride. After breakfast you will ride across the islands of Cres and Lošinj all the way to Mali Lošinj, our destination for the night. On the way, if you are lucky, you will have the opportunity to see griffons, which are protected on the island. You will pass through the town of Osor with a small bridge built by the Romans, today it connects the islands Cres and Lošinj. After lunch on the boat, you will have a free afternoon for swimming, or to explore the town.
Day Three — Lošinj and Molat, 20 km + 10 km (easy)
Today's ride is a gentle cycle around the wonderful bays of Čikat, one of the most popular places in the country for health tourism. Once you pass Čikat bay you will come to Veli Lošinj, a lovely town to stop and enjoy a morning coffee, after which you will cycle back to our boat. After lunch, we sail to the island of Molat, passing through a marine protected area for dolphins. Called the flower island because hundreds of different plants colour the land, Molat has only a few hundred inhabitants, fewer cars and no police.
Day Four — Dugi Otok, 42 km (moderate)
Today, we start with a sail to the island Dugi Otok. There you will cycle on a panoramic road through the middle of the island, enjoying gorgeous panoramic views of the neighbouring islands. This is a spectacular ride! At the end of the island, you will meet up with our boat once again and sail to Zadar, a historical town that dates back more than 3,000 years. Zadar will charm you with its narrow streets and well-preserved history. Before dinner, you will enjoy a guided city tour.
Day Five — Pag, 33 km (moderate)
This morning we sail to the island Pag from Zadar, taking in wonderful views of the Velebit mountain range along the way. This interesting looking island has almost no vegetation on it, as it bears the brunt of the strong winds coming from Velebit. After lunch you will cycle this island with its old stone walls and thousand-year-old olive trees. We then set sail to the island Rab, one of the sunniest places in all of Europe. Before dinner, you will enjoy a guided city tour.
Day Six — Rab, 22 km (moderate)
You will start today’s ride cycling in the historical town of Rab, continuing to the other side of the island and the town of Lopar. Here you will see the biggest and the most beautiful sand beach in the country. After meeting up with our boat, we will sail to the island — and town — of Krk, yet another beautiful and historical town on our tour. Before dinner, you will enjoy a guided city tour.
Day Seven — Krk, 45 km (moderate)
The bicycle ride today will take you across the island of Krk. Its inhabitants call this land the “Golden Island,” because of the abundance of water and agriculture. You will cycle through a lush and fertile area covered with vineyards where the famous wine Vrbnička Žlahtina is produced. You will then visit Vrbnik, a small pirate town with the second narrowest street in the world. Then we are off to Omišalj, to meet with our boat. Back on the boat, we sail to Rijeka. We will arrive mid-afternoon, giving you plenty of time to relax before our Captain’s dinner.
Day Eight — Rijeka
After our last breakfast, you will begin your journey homeward or beyond. If you’re considering exploring more of Croatia after the tour, let us know and we can make recommendations.
